The Reality Redesigned contest is accepting submissions in full force. We follow our host Jeremy as he lands in sunny California, having traveled from one coast to the other. In this episode, We meet another Reality Redesigned judge: Jeff Steber, the founder, designer and president of Intense Cycles.

Jeff gives Jeremy a tour of the Intense shop and shows us how bike frames are made, Intense style. We get to see it all in this episode, from the time the order is begun, to the time its boxed for shipping. He talks about how to stay competitive in the market today, keeping manufacturing on North American soil. Intense Cycles works efficiently and that is the key to success. Learn about how Jeff and Intense Cycles build their frames, and bring that back to your drawing board while working on your frames. But you don't want to read all about it. You want to watch the shop in action.

This is an episode of Reality Redesigned, presented by Edge Factor. These episodes are part of a design contest for students, based on the Edge Factor production called "Gnarly Metal". Edge Factor exists to get students involved and excited about manufacturing. These initial episodes are meant to introduce the judges for this season of Reality Redesigned as well as introduce the viewer to the process of getting a design to market, uncovering the cost involved in that process. Future episodes will include the judges opinion of the designs that have been submitted, eventually tracking the designs as the judges pick a winner.  lol if I found a way a way to make (affordable) carbon frames in North America, it would be the dumbest move possible to sell it for "40,000$ worth of prizes". Banks would give probably ten times as much for a loan to start my own bike company ^^

If someone does it once they will surely do it again. It's about getting their name out there.

Intense, Thanks, bought an SS2 last year for many reasons, one being that it was hand built in North America. Seeing this video just confirms that I made a great choice, Intense is as passionate about building bikes as some of us are about riding. Keep it in House Intense. As for this contest I really dont know what to say, i'm just looking forward to watching it unfold, and good luck to all those who enter.

Nothing like crowd sourcing for ideas. Contests like this are BS. The winning idea could make someone else millions. Don't whore yourself out.

@ 3:51 I notice a kid straining to tweak a head tube with the front triangle in a vise. Now I haven't experienced it personally, but over the years I've heard many stories of Intenses' having misalinged frames. I wonder if this is their way of aligning them?

Cool inside look at NA manufacturing. It's tough going up against the big 3 and their offshore mfg. Should be interesting to see what ideas are brought to the table by the end of the contest.
Really don't get the suspicion of so many people about stealing ideas. Seems like a really legit contest to equip those with great ideas with the stuff to turn them from concept to product.
